Karla & Diego’s wedding in El Paso, TX

Hotel Paso del Norte

Karla and Diego created their wedding around the city they love, El Paso, TX. They said “yes” to each other at Hotel Paso del Norte, the downtown landmark with the stained glass dome. They filled the day with vintage details and little nods to home. And we got to make their cake!

Here’s how the day came together, with a few words from the vendors we shared it with.

The Cake

Karla and Diego’s wedding cake was 3 tiers covered in white buttercream finished with textured abstract frosting. We kept the base clean and soft so the flowers could do the talking: red anthuriums and trailing green amaranthus.
The florals were provided by Debbie’s Bloomers, one of our favorite flower shops in El Paso, TX. Anthuriums are a little dramatic but it was definitely the right call.

A quick note if you’re booking a grand venue, big rooms with high ceilings can make a cake look smaller than it is. Bring your venue details to your consultation so your baker can plan height, placement and florals for the space.

“We absolutely loved how the cake turned out.”

The Photos

Vivian of Stories by Vivian photographed the day, and her favorite moment was their first look on the grand staircase. She shot it from above and below, and you can see why. That staircase was made for this.

Karla and Diego wanted photos that felt true to life with a touch of moody, which is Vivian's style. They also love 35 mm film, so Vivian kept her film camera on her all day for that nostalgic look.

She loved how many meaningful El Paso details they included. In her words, the day paid "true homage to our beautiful city."

Her advice for couples is worth reading twice. Stay present with each other and your guests. Trust your vendors to handle what you hired them for, even if the day doesn't go 100% as planned. And when the tears start, let them. Vivian says the images you'll treasure in 50 years are the ones you can feel: the emotion, the love, the honesty. Let your photographer see that.

The signage

Celeste of The Signs Club created the signs, and Karla and Diego wanted them romantic and elegant, with burgundy tones and vintage details that felt like part of the decor.

The welcome sign was vintage-inspired monogram finished with fabric draping. Celeste also made a fabric seating chart and bar signs with white lettering on burgundy fabric, plus a memorial sign honoring loved ones who couldn't be there.

Her favorite piece was the welcome sign. The fabric draped over the sign is a simple detail, and it made the whole piece feel romantic and dramatic specially right next to the floral arrangements.

Her advice: treat your signs as decor. They can pull your whole vision together, so play with fabrics, textures, and colors.
