An intimate + sparkling wedding in El Paso, TX
Christine & Eddie
Some love stories take their time getting where they're going, and Christine and Eddie's is one of them. On May 30th, the couple said "I do" and celebrated with family and friends in El Paso, in a day built around the two things they wanted most: intimacy and love.
A Love Story Years in the Making
Christine and Eddie actually met back in 2012, when they both worked at Wells Fargo. They weren't in the same department, but they spoke daily, and it was Christine's mother, Veronica, who saw something special in the way Eddie carried himself. Veronica arranged a day for Christine to stop by and "happen" to run into him. It worked. The two connected instantly and stayed in touch over the following years, even as Eddie's work took him traveling.
It wasn't until 2022 that they had their first official date, and from there, everything moved with the kind of certainty that only comes when two people already know each other. They said "I love you" by their second date. Within seven months, Christine had sold her house, they'd both made career changes, and they'd moved to a new city to build their life together. By the time they stood at the altar at St. Patrick's Cathedral, one of downtown El Paso's most beloved wedding ceremony venues, they weren't just beginning a marriage. They were continuing a story that had already been years in the making.
A Day Rooted in Tradition
Christine and Eddie's vision for their wedding was clear from the start: intimate, classic, and timeless, with just enough sparkle to make it feel like a celebration. It's a theme that resonates with a lot of the couples we work with here at Chantilly Cakes, and it's a great reminder that a wedding doesn't need to be trend-driven to feel special. Sometimes the most memorable weddings are the ones built on the details that matter most to the couple themselves.
The day began with getting-ready photos at the historic Plaza Hotel in downtown El Paso, where Christine's gown hung in a sunlit window before she stepped into it: a fitted lace mermaid silhouette with a sweetheart bodice embroidered in soft, gilded florals. For the walk down the aisle at St. Patrick's, she paired it with a high-necked, long-sleeve lace overlay, fitting for the cathedral setting, then let the gown's lace and sweetheart neckline take center stage on its own for the reception. Eddie matched the day's classic-with-a-twist spirit in an ivory dinner jacket, black trousers, and a black bow tie. Christine carried a lush, all-white bouquet of calla lilies and ranunculus, its long trailing greenery echoing the timeless, garden-inspired feel the couple wanted throughout the day.
From there, the celebration moved into the evening with a reception at St. Roger Depot, a downtown El Paso event space filled with meaningful, personal touches. The room itself leaned into the couple's classic-with-sparkle theme: exposed brick and wood-beamed ceilings hung with wrought-iron candle chandeliers, arched doorways glowing under deep blue and violet uplighting, and a neon marquee sign behind the bar spelling out "Paso," a small nod to the city that brought Christine and Eddie together. Tables were dressed in soft ivory linens and set with tall glass cylinders of white taper candles alongside low, orchard-style centerpieces of white anthurium and ranunculus nestled among fresh green apples, limes and grapes, a fresh, unexpected texture against all that classic white and gold. Underfoot, the dance floor was custom-painted with a gold palm-frond pattern framing the couple's monogram.
A First Dance Worth the Search
If you ask Christine, the first dance is where the whole night crystallized. She and Eddie chose "Get to Love You" by Jennifer Owens, an acoustic wedding version that isn't easy to find. That rarity was part of what made it feel so personal. They practiced for some time leading up to the wedding, and when the moment finally came, surrounded by the people they love most, it became the emotional centerpiece of the day. As Christine put it, their guests couldn't stop talking about how loved and intimate the whole night felt, and how visibly moved so many of them were by the connection between the couple. That's really the heart of what makes a wedding memorable, and it's something engaged couples planning their own El Paso wedding can take to heart: the moments that feel the most personal are usually the ones guests remember longest.
Through the Photographer's Lens
Photographer Stephane Lemaire spent the day capturing Christine and Eddie's story, and for him, the night's most memorable moment came at the very end: their sparkler send-off. "Christine and Eddie were so happy, and you could see it all over their faces," he shared. "There was so much energy around them, and their expressions were absolutely glowing. It was one of those moments that was just as beautiful to witness as it was to photograph."
Earlier in the day, the Plaza Hotel itself became part of the story. Stephane used the venue's architecture and light to create dramatic, contrasty portraits of Christine in her gown and veil, several of which he shot in black and white to let the texture of the dress and the interplay of light and shadow take center stage.
Christine and Eddie brought an editorial sensibility to their portraits, comfortable taking direction while still wanting the images to feel authentically them, a balance Stephane says he loves working within. His advice for couples chasing photos like theirs: build a timeline with room to breathe. "When we're not rushing from one thing to the next, you have time to relax, interact with each other, laugh, and actually experience what's happening," he explained. He also credits a strong wedding planner with making that ease possible, someone couples can trust to handle the details so they can stay present. For Christine and Eddie, that planner was Alisha of Three Sisters, who helped bring the whole day together, and whose steady hand behind the scenes is a big part of why the day felt so unhurried.
A Sweet, Simple Statement
True to Christine and Eddie's love of classic, timeless details, their custom wedding cake kept things elegant and understated. Our team at Chantilly Cakes created a long, rectangular sheet cake covered in white buttercream with a vintage hand piping design that felt right at home with the couple's classic aesthetic. Fresh kiwi slices and grapes covered the cake top, tying the dessert right back into the rest of the room's design. They also got to blow out the candles making a shared wish together in addition to cutting the cake, which symbolizes starting their new life as a team.
This is a great example of something we love reminding couples who are just starting to plan their wedding cake in El Paso: the cake doesn't have to be the loudest thing in the room to make a statement. Sometimes it's the small, cohesive details, a color, a texture, a single ingredient, that carry a design through, and Christine and Eddie's cake did exactly that.
“Cake of our dreams! Tasted every bit better than I imagined!”
A Night Built on Love
By the time the last sparkler faded, Christine and Eddie had done exactly what they set out to do: fill the night with love, and make sure everyone in the room felt it. From a chance meeting in 2012 to a wedding day fourteen years later, their story is proof that the best celebrations are the ones that feel like you, sparkle and all.
